Start with the behavior

Pressure to act immediately, requests for one-time codes, demands for gift cards or cryptocurrency, and instructions to keep a payment secret are serious warning signs. A familiar local number or official-looking caller name does not neutralize them.

Do not click a text link or install software at the caller’s direction. Pause, preserve the message, and contact the claimed organization through an independently obtained number.

Use lookup and spam data as supporting clues

Some services document spam warnings, community reports, caller ID, or blocking functions. Truecaller specializes in spam and mobile caller identification, while Radaris documents spam detection and call blocking alongside broader public-record context.

A clean result does not make a call safe, and a spam label does not identify the human who placed it. Reports can be missing, duplicated, malicious, or attached to a number that changed hands.

Choose a low-risk response

Block repeated unwanted contact, secure any account whose code or credentials were exposed, and notify the relevant financial institution if money moved. Keep screenshots and timestamps in case a carrier, platform, or agency asks for details.

Report unwanted calls and texts through official channels rather than paying a lookup service simply because the situation feels urgent. Paid data cannot establish caller intent or overcome spoofed caller ID.
